Beacon Arts TBD Community Space
Beacon Arts activated the TBD Community Space at 2507 Beacon Ave S (behind the whale/sunflower mural) from April 2017 - April 2018. The following are an archive of events that details that time period, the biggest hit was Dozer's Warehouse curated by Crik Lont. Upon Beacon Arts leaving, Crik was able to continue using the warehouse and gallery for studio work and occasional shows.

Tots & Kids' Jam
Tots’ Jam has moved! Please join us at our new class location—Welcome Table Church—the first and third Thursdays! We’ll be gearing the class now to tots, aged 0–2 (though all ages are welcome to attend!), and we’ve added a sister class, “Kids’ Jam,” aimed at ages 3–5 that begins immediately after TJ. Both classes will include stories, music, a sing-along, and more. Come to one or both for just $5 per family! (Tots’ Jam folx can stay for Kids’ Jam at no additional charge).
Tots' Jam—Join childcare professionals and singers/musicians Jessie McKenna and Sarah Bryc for Tots' Jam, our infant/toddler story time, followed by music, including songs with fingerplay and a sing-along with live instruments. This class begins at 10:30 AM every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Tots' Jam is aimed at children ages 0–2, but all ages are welcome to participate. *$5 per family, per class (families may stay for Kids' Jam, our pre-school class, for no additional charge)
Kids' Jam—Our "pre-school" class, Kids' Jam, is a story time followed by music, a sing-along with instruments (guitar, uke, hand percussion), some movin' and shakin' where we'll dance our wiggles out, and art-making—This class begins at 11:15 AM right after Tots' Jam and is geared toward children 2–5, but all ages are welcome to participate. *$5 per family (families may arrive early for Tots' Jam, our infant/toddler class, and stay for the duration for no additional charge)
*No one turned away for lack of funds!

Last Hurrah for Dozer's Warehouse

Last chance to see the collection of 103 murals before the building is torn down. A new way to view, a collaboration with Mollie Bryan of Lusio Lights and owner of Mokedo, will showcase the murals using artistic lighting. Crick Lont art show in the gallery. Music to celebrate and say goodbye. All ages, $5 suggested donation goes to live entertainers.

Visual and kinetic artist Bobbin started Breakin in the Northwest HIP HOP scene in 1997. The movement and expression of the dance captures a subconscious archive full
of life and raw emotion. Through cyphers, Breakin embodies a communal language for diverse individuals to share complex experiences and witness each person's perspective.
Recently, Bobbin began translating this subconscious internal dialog into a visual medium. Using canvases and large pieces of reclaimed wood, Bobbin creates acrylic and sumi ink abstractions. In his own words, “This shedding and surrendering to the raw power of improvised movement and emotion is done abstractly, helping express complex perspectives in a stark and ever changing representation. The feeling of losing it all, but finding it at the same time in the organized chaos of the universe.”
Beacon Arts is excited to share Bobbin’s unique intersection of B-boying and a visual medium at the TBD Community Arts Space. Closing Celebration includes Dance Demos, Music, Gallery Show and Cash Bar. Show closes 1/20. Stop in to experience something truly unique in Seattle!
New Nails
Opening January 27, 4-8pm
Art exhibition and zine release by Victor Devlin. Victor Devlin is a self taught visual artist from North Carolina working across mediums. New Nails is a series of mixed media paintings and drawings addressing strength, mental health, and terminal illness.The work was made using pen, ink, watercolor, acrylic paint, and found materials. Victor as been making personal art as a focus since 2013 and produced a multitude of work for solo, duo, and group exhibitions. Victor's interest in print has also led to the creation of zines and ephemera along the way. A portion of the proceeds from art sales will go to the ACLU.

Public opening of the largest temporary mural installation in Seattle! Over 60 Artists share murals an studio art in this once in a lifetime installation. Don't miss it! limited viewings because the building, murals and all come tumbling down in December.
Black in Seattle
Sunday, July 9, 3:30 - 5 PM. This is a screening of a throwback video that was locally made by local actors from Seattle's Central Area. "Involvement" is a short 20 minute video that was produced in 1968 by Christian & Coffin Co. for AT&T and other phone companies in Seattle, WA to be used to train hiring managers in diversifying and promoting inclusion in the workplace. It follows the journey of the lead actor Josh (Clarence Bibbs) through the hiring and onboarding process in a predominantly white organization. It also features fascinating vintage images of Seattle's Central Area in 1968. How much has Seattle really changed? How much has it stayed the same? After the video, we will be joined by Clarence Bibbs, the actor who was featured in the video, for a short discussion on what Seattle was like then, and what, if anything, has really changed.
Teri's Tweens Summer Art Class
July 10th-12th, 9:30 am-12:45 pm. 3-day art class for kids in grades 5-7. 8-10 artists maximum. Cost: $160 for the 3-day class, materials included. Possible projects: Collagraphy (a type of rintmaking), Expedition-Exploration Journaling, linoblock prints, and painting and others. We will have fun experimenting and building skills while making art!

Babaylan and Baybayin
Sunday, July 16, 3:00 - 5 PM. This is an interactive knowledge building exhibit and discussion space to delve deeper into the places that gender held in ancient Philippines. Using archival literature, we will build on what we know about ancient Philippines and the sacred space that women and "third gender" people occupied in the Islands. Along with the Babaylan exploration we will also be working on our baybayin, indigenous Philippine script which was widely in use pre-contact. Literature shows that indigenous Pilipinos were highly literate and yet no writings from babaylans or shamans survived once colonization began. As an artist I view the relearning of indigenous script an act of resistance, an undoing of the trauma that was incurred upon my people.
