Robert Jones Retrospective

Robert Allen Jones, 1918-2018, lived and painted on Beacon Hill for 69 years. 

He and his beloved wife, Flo, bought their home in 1960 where they raised their three daughters. Bob, pursued painting taking classes at the Frye Museum while he was a Seattle Fire Fighter. Bob was injured on the job and retired early from Seattle Fire Department.

 

The last years of his life Bob lived with his devoted dog, Midas. Midas was a boxer and “the smartest dog I have ever known," Bob would say.  They took daily walks through the neighborhood and were a familiar sight to many. 

 

Bob died in February, 2018. Midas followed his master into the next realm the following day.

 

Bob’s family has donated a large collection of his work to Beacon Arts. These representative pieces are a small part of that collection. 

 

We are also working to document his work more fully. This challenge is complicated by the fact that the work was done over such a long period of time and very few of the paintings are dated. Most subjects in the paintings are not yet identified. If you knew Bob and have information about his work or recognize any of the folks in his portraits, please contact us.

The Frye Museum will select a painting from our collection to go into their permanent "Study Collection." There was another large exhibit and sale of his work at the 2019 Beacon Hill Festival.
